Courmayeur despite the name, is a small picturesque medieval Italian village with a great atmosphere having narrow cobblestone streets, small moderately priced bars and fabulous restaurants. The slopes are easily reached by cable cars and the resort has invested heavily in snowmaking to ensure good snow conditions, although with Mont Blanc being the highest mountain in Europe, snow is practically guaranteed whilst the Alps here are among the most spectacular in the range. The gentler Checrouit side overlooks Courmayeur whilst the Val Veny side which faces Mont Blanc provides more challenging skiing.
Courmayeur lies at the junction between Switzerland, France and Italy with a number of other ski resorts close by - Cervinia and La Thuile in Italy, Chamonix in France and Verbier in Switzerland which can all be reached for a full day of skiing.
